Have you ever felt like quitting your 9-5 job and the daily grind? You have? Then you’ve come to the right place because that’s exactly what I did in 2015!
Hi, I’m Tanja and I’m originally from the UK. After ten years working in tourism in London, I packed up my life in the UK to move some 6000 miles east to Japan. If you want to know more about my personal journey, you can read my story if you like.
Now, my morning commute is a 15 minute drive with views of the mountains and Pacific Ocean, instead of my face wedged into someone’s armpit on the Northern Line.
I spend my time in Japan teaching English, freelance writing, and studying Japanese. I have made lots of new friends from all over the world, and so far I haven’t had a single day where I regret the decision of giving up the familiarity of life in the UK.

What’s with the name Ryokougirl?
Ryokou (旅行) means trip/travel in Japanese. I write mainly about travel and I live in Japan so naturally thought to use the Japanese word. Girl, well, because I’m female…
